About Mr. Hilgers
I grew up in Sunny Central Oregon and graduated high school from Redmond High School in 2004. My time in high school was very enjoyable for me and the highlight of my high school was winning a state basketball championship, I have photo evidence if you really want to see it. I graduated high school as a member of the National Honor Society.
I attended three colleges and ended up with a Masters in Teaching. I spent two years at Chemeketa Community College in Salem, three years at Western Oregon University, and 16 months at George Fox University where I earned my masters in education. While at Chemeketa and Western Oregon, I competed in baseball. The highlight of my college career occurred while attending George Fox, where I met my wife teaching abroad in Ecuador. It was an amazing experience I will briefly talk about.
Some previous jobs that I have held include: Construction, Fire Fighting, Coaching, Parole and Probation Technician, and UPS loader. Of all the work that I have done, aside from teaching, working as a fire fighter during summer would stand out as the most enjoyable. I describe it as being paid to hike around in the forest and go camping. That is the glorified version of it; there was some very grueling work that was done, but it was worth the life experience.
In my free time I enjoy being outside. I like to go hiking, kayaking, and surfing. I also enjoy traveling. I have ventured to Mexico a couple times, as well as Ecuador. I have also traveled within the United States to the mid-west as well as the East coast. I Really enjoy spending my time off with my wife and daughter and our son.
This will be my 5th year here at Taft 7-12 teaching. Previous to Taft I taught in Redmond. I also coach here at Taft. I coach the varsity baseball team and have previously coached football as well as basketball.
I look forward to a fun and exciting year!
